On November the 23rd, 2015 , a workshop, “Mindful work for constructing a dual attunement frame in Brainsspotting” was held. This was my first brainspotting related workshop to plan, prepare, and deliver with a help of my co-worker / BSP friend.

I took the dual attunement part from the formal trainings and focused on it. I did (and will continue doing this) this because it seems to be essential attitude therapists must have in a healing relationship with his/her client(s). And since it is attitude, not method, it is hard for students to digest and integrate with their existing knowledge. Digestion and integration of attitude takes time and effort. This life-long education cannot be done in a 3 day formal training.

Brainspotting assertively values the attunements. This is unique because methods in clinical setting seem to be more like practice of medicine in which therapists have paternalistic attitude to relate with his/her client(s). “I know better than you about yourself, so just do what I tell you”. In brainspotting, we do not hold this attitude. Instead, we say, “I don’t know anything about you, so I am just with you providing a safe and sound environment and witnessing what you have to say and do here”. Holding this attitude makes one highly functioning in providing healing.

I am so glad that some 20 therapists got to know this attitude that I believe the best to hold as a therapist. I am so glad that I helped them to be therapists eventually called “master therapists” because they will do more excellent jobs with holding this dual attunement attitude.
